Collection Container/Tube:
Preferred: Light-green top (lithium heparin plasma gel)
Acceptable: Green top (heparin)
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL Plasma
Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial
Collection Instructions:
1. Within 2 hours of collection, centrifuge the specimen.
2. For plasma gel tubes, plasma may sit on gel refrigerated or be aliquoted into a plastic vial.
3. For green top tubes, aliquot plasma immediately into a plastic vial.

Evaluation of electrolyte balance, cardiac arrhythmia, muscular weakness, hepatic encephalopathy, and kidney failure using plasma specimens
