Patient's age and sex are required.
Specimen Required
Patient Preparation: The total protein concentration is 0.4 to 0.8 mg/dL lower when the specimen is collected from a patient in the recumbent position.
Collection Container/Tube:
Preferred: Light-green top (lithium heparin plasma gel)
Acceptable: Green top (lithium heparin)
Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Gel tubes should be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.
2. Green-top tubes should be centrifuged and the plasma aliquoted into a plastic vial within 2 hours of collection.
